Do You Have a Fungal Issue?

Do you or someone you know have problems with focus and concentration, headaches, or body aches? How about skin rashes, nail infections, or feeling anxious?

Many people have been told after a medical evaluation that included a history, examination, and labs that no medical problems could be found.  One of the things that could cause these problems is mycotoxin-induced illness from a current infection or past fungal or mold exposure.

We’ve treated many people and helped them get back on the road to good health.  One simple way we start the evaluation process is by asking 7 simple questions. Three of these questions are whether at any time of your life you have taken broad-spectrum antibiotics if you crave sugar, and if you are bothered by burning, itching, or tearing of your eyes.  

Yeast overgrowth is a common problem with people on acid-reducing medications such as Omeprazole (Prilosec), Nexium, and Pantoprazole (or other proton pump inhibitors).  Here is a diet plan to limit the growth of yeast in your body.

Try to avoid the following:

  • Fruits that have high sugar content: Dates, raisins, grapes, bananas, and mango.
  • Gluten-containing grains: Wheat, rye, barley and spelt.
  • Processed meat or farmed fish: Deli meats and farm-raised fish.
  • Processed oils and fats: Canola oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil or margarine.
  • Certain condiments:  Soy sauce, white vinegar, BBQ sauce, ketchup, horseradish or mayonnaise.
  • Certain dairy products: Milk, cheese, and cream.
  • Artificial sweeteners and sugar: Aspartame, cane sugar, corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, agave, molasses and table sugar.
  • Ground nuts and seeds higher in mold: Peanuts, cashews, pecans and pistachios.
  • Beverages high in sugar, caffeine, and alcohol: Caffeinated teas, coffee, energy drinks, soda, fruit juice, beer, wine or spirits.
  • Food preservatives and additives: Nitrates or sulfates

Foods you can eat:

  • Fruits lower in sugar: Lemon, limes, berries (may be eaten in small amounts).
  • Vegetables lower in “starch”: Asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, kale, celery, cucumber, eggplant, onion, spinach, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes and rutabaga (best if eaten raw or steamed).
  • Grains without gluten: Millet, quinoa, oat bran and buckwheat.
  • Protein from quality meats: Chicken, eggs, salmon, turkey and sardines (organic, pasture-raised and wild-caught varieties are best).
  • Naturally healthy fats: Avocado, unrefined coconut oil, flax oil, olives, extra-virgin olive oil and sesame oil.
  • Specific dairy products: Ghee, butter, organic kefir or plain yogurt.
  • Low mold nuts and seeds: Almonds, sunflower seeds, flaxseed or coconut.
  • Certain herbs and spices: Black pepper, salt, rosemary, cinnamon, dill, garlic, ginger, oregano, paprika, turmeric and thyme.
  • Specific condiments: Apple cider vinegar, coconut aminos and sauerkraut.
  • Sugar free sweeteners: Stevia, xylitol, and erythritol.
  • Caffeine free beverages:  Homemade almond milk, herbal teas, chicory coffee, filtered water, coconut milk (look for one without additives) and water infused with lemon or lime.
